Corporate social responsibility

We are a sustainable and socially responsible company.

Our commitment to the environment and our community is of paramount importance to us. We strive to ensure that we are ethical in all our business practices, building a culture where our employees, guests, suppliers and contractors share these values.

Sustainability

We are committed to ensuring our venues are fit for the future. To us, sustainability is more than simply ticking a few ‘green’ boxes; it’s our culture and our lifestyle. We all have an impact on the environment every day. We know we can make a difference but, for us, it’s about deciding what kind of difference we want to make. That’s why our Corporate and Social Responsibility Strategy focuses on three key areas: Local Impact, Environment, Health and Well-Being.

Our Corporate and Social Responsibility Policy

Impacting the local economy

As people from outside the area attend our venues, they spend money in the local area. This additional expenditure circulates around the local economy generating economic output and supporting local jobs. According to a Regeneris report, visits to our venues contributed £4m GVA to the Leicester & Leicestershire LEP and supported 90 FTE jobs in 2016. Coupled with the impact of visiting family and friends to the University who stay in our hotels, that’s a further £9m GVA and 190 FTE jobs supported in Leicestershire.

The local community

We forge relationships with our partners in the local community. We have an extensive food and beverage operation across the portfolio and, by sourcing local produce, we can make a real contribution to our local community and environment.

We believe in keeping our menus simple and go to great lengths to source fresh, seasonal ingredients from local providers wherever possible. We support local brewers, distillers and winemakers through our stocking policy and even offer experience days with local producers as part of our wedding packages.

Environment

We are on a constant drive to encourage a strong green ethos across all our properties and to improve, not just maintain, our systems. That’s why we are committed to our Green Tourism journey and are very proud to have retained our Gold status at Burleigh Court Conference Centre and Hotel of “Inspirational and Outstanding”.

We are proud to be an ISO 14001 accredited organisation - an international standard that demonstrates to company management and employees, as well as external stakeholders, that environmental impact is being measured and improved. We also operate in line with the University's sustainability and energy strategy until 2050.
